David Baker

I grew up in a small seaside town in North Wales. In 1998, I moved to London and joined the Metropolitan Police Service. I worked as a detective in deprived inner London boroughs for 11 years. In 2009, I transferred to Dorset Police on the South coast of England and policed a very different community. In 2016, while cycling home from work, I was involved in a road traffic collision resulting in a traumatic brain injury; the permanent damage meant I could no longer serve as a police officer. I decided to study photography with a view to a future career in the industry; I graduated with a first-class BA Hons in Commercial Photography from the Arts University Bournemouth in 2023.

Since graduating, my commercial work has ranged from editorial commissions to awareness campaigns for leading UK charities. I am passionate about long-term documentary projects and, for the past two years, have been documenting the impact of political, economic, and environmental policies on sheep farming communities and national heritage in rural North Wales. This work is regularly featured in an industry-related publication.
